A dead German soldier lies sprawled in the debris-filled street of Nijmegen, Holland, after American paratroopers liberated the Dutch town despite strong resistance from the Nazis. The paratroopers were part of the First Allied Airborne Army which launched the first landings in Holland September 17, 1944.
